Style Your Home With Fragrance: Part I
“Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains.” ~ Diane Ackerman, poet and naturalist
Without realizing it, our experiences of spaces are heavily influenced by our sense of smell. Think of entering your grandmother’s kitchen and smelling her delicious home cooking or walking into your home on Valentine’s Day and breathing in the heartwarming fragrance of fresh-cut roses. Your olfactory glands, which allow you to smell, are the sensation most connected to memory, meaning that experiences associated with a scent will likely stay with you forever.
Have you ever caught a whiff of an ex-lover’s cologne while walking down the street? That’s the olfactory gland reminding you of steamy moments from your past.
We can also use the connection between our emotions and our sense of smell to subconsciously lift our moods. At Kavaldon, one of our favorite ways to do this is by incorporating our favorite fragrances into our home décor. Whether it’s welcoming visitors to our living rooms, dining rooms, or even bedrooms (fingers crossed!), these scents can serve as dynamic design elements.
This multifaceted décor and aromatherapy potential of home fragrance is what drives us at Kavaldon to produce candles—we are absolutely mad about recreating our most intimate, passionate, and beloved experiences to decorate our home—and yours.
Whether your style is classic and traditional or modern and edgy (or a combination of both!), luxury candles can serve as chic accent pieces that tie together your room and exude the perfect ambiance. In this two-part series, we explore the various uses of luxury candles to style every room in your home.
Create a Welcoming Living Room
When you welcome friends, family, or lovers into your home, their first impression is often formed by your living room. Whether having your girlfriends over for a wine tasting or inviting a date for an intimate night in, the living room space introduces everyone to your own personal domain.
To make your living room accessible and appreciable to all, we love the unisex, always alluring scent of Empress. This discreet candle combines a feminine floral touch with tangerine and jasmine, making it appealing to lady and gentlemen visitors alike. Plus, there’s nothing like this royal scent to let visitors know who’s in charge for the night. This light fragrance is the perfect complement to neutral or subtle color schemes like whites, grays, or muted citrus hues—think a mod couch with light accent pillows.
As with lovers in the bedroom, luxury candles also come best in pairs! To further accentuate Empress, try the citrusy Oyédo from Diptyque and Cire Trudon’s amber-heavy Bethléem. Blended together, these candles deliver a delicious bouquet that will disarm any guest with its warm embrace.
Turn Your Bathroom Into a Personal Spa
Despite being one of the more functional rooms in a home, if designed right, your bathroom can become a place for escape and rejuvenation. Clean, fresh, and light aromas all work beautifully to create a scent profile that encourages self-care and pampering while eliminating any unwanted odors.
Harper offers the light and neutralizing scents of fresh-cut grass and juicy European fruits, allowing you to bathe in luscious visions of exotic summer getaways. Enjoy a glass of sweet wine as you soak in your marble-wrapped Jacuzzi tub surrounded by the divine fragrance of Anjou pear and Mediterranean fig—either alone or with a sultry companion.
To add to this spa-inspired bouquet, Cire Trudon’s Manon offers a fresh laundry scent that embodies cleanliness. Diptyque’s Green Fig Tree adds a further Zen element perfect for longer periods of relaxation. Keep your bathroom spacious and inviting with these fresh, clean fragrances that complement a minimalist, modern décor. Place candles of varying sizes throughout the bathroom to create a spa ambiance that ensures ultimate relaxation.
