Candle Safety

CANDLE SAFETY

Always follow candle safety rules to prevent fire, personal injury and/or property damage.

• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
• Never burn a candle on or near anything than can catch fire.
• Always keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets.

HOW TO BURN A CANDLE SAFELY

BEFORE LIGHTING

1. Trim the wick short before relighting the candle. Please only cut the wick once the wax is at a cool temperature. Long or crooked wicks can cause uneven burning and dripping.

2. Be sure the candle is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface. This can help prevent heat damage to underlying surfaces and prevent glass containers from breaking.

3. Burn candles in a well-ventilated room.

4. Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.

5. Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents and ceiling fans. This will help prevent rapid, uneven burning, and avoid flame flare-ups and sooting. Drafts can also blow nearby lightweight items into the flame where they could catch fire.

WHILE BURNING

1. Never touch, tilt or move a burning.

2. Don’t burn a candle all the way down. Extinguish the flame if it comes too close to the glass container. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when ½ inch of wax remains in the glass container.

3. Place burning candles at least three inches apart from one another. This helps ensure they don’t melt one another, or create their own drafts to cause improper burning.

4. Extinguish a candle if it repeatedly smokes, flickers, or the flame becomes too high. The candle isn’t burning properly. Cool, trim the wick, then check for drafts before relighting.

5. Always keep a burning candle within sight. Extinguish all candles when leaving a room or before going to sleep. Be sure the wick ember is no longer glowing.

6. Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room. Don’t burn too many candles in a small room or in a “tight” home where air exchange is limited.

7. Never use a candle as a night light.

8. Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.

WHEN EXTINGUISHING
1. Use a snuffer to extinguish a candle. It is the safest way to prevent hot wax splatters.

2. Never use water to extinguish a candle. Water can cause the hot wax to splatter and might break a glass container.

3. Make sure the candle is completely out and the wick ember is no longer glowing before leaving the room.

4. Don’t touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.

5. Never use a knife or sharp object to remove wax drippings from a glass holder. It might scratch, weaken, or cause the glass to break upon subsequent use.

TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR CANDLE, PLEASE ALSO TAKE THESE ADDITIONAL SIMPLE STEPS

1. Upon each use, burn the candle until the wax becomes liquid.

2. After blowing out the flame, should the wick require centering, gently center the wick when the wax is still warm. Allow the candle to solidify before relighting.

3. To preserve the fragrance, do not burn your candle for more than three (3) hours at a time during the first third of the candle and 1 to 2 hours at a time remaining

4. Enjoy your candle!
